Serbian modern history starts with 19th Century uprisings and national revolution which lead to liberation from Ottoman rule and state building process. Two local dynasties emerged and ruled Serbia (and Yugoslavia) from 1804 till 1945. In Topola, beautiful area in the heart of Serbia and just some 80 minute drive from Belgrade, you can visit the complex memorizing Serbian Uprisings and St George’s church, a royal mausoleum of Karadjordjevic dynasty. This area is also famous for its vineyards and cellars, and some of the Serbia’s best are located just couple of minutes from the historical complex in Topola.

Tour Highlights :

You will visit Oplenac complex with several sites. First is King Peter's House with thematic exhibitions dedicated to the Karadjordjevic Royal Family. Next is Church of St. George with mausoleum of the Serbian and Yugoslav Royal house of Karadjorđevic. The Church’s interior is made of mosaics of a surreal beauty, which consists of 40 million glass pieces.
King Peter I wineyards today consists of 10 hectares, which is only a third of the area planted when the King was alive. Besides producing high-quality wine, which can be bought only in selected shops, today it is a museum of enology. Visitors can try white sauvignon, red sauvignon and chardonnay and pinot from the King’s vineyards. There is also a traditional lunch in one of the best local restaurants, and at the end, the wine tasting at Aleksandrović, probably the best Serbian winery.
